FAMILY HOME EVENING:THE EARLY YEARS

This post doesn't have visual aides to go with it, although i wish it did. Tonight, Adessa had the lesson. Now, I know what you are thinking, she made up some funny story about "rainbow sparkles" and unicorns and wild horses. Let me enlighten you by saying that she gave as meaningful, or more meaningful a lesson, than some adults i know! But before i get ahead of myself, she called on "South Alaska"(Kurt) to give the opening prayer. The lesson began with the scripture story of Joseph and his coat of many colors. She told a correct account of how his brothers left him in the "desert", and how he was found and made to be a "store owner", and one day his brothers came to the "store" for help. Joseph was not mean to his brothers, he forgave them and treated them kindly. "That is how Jesus wants us to treat each other. We must forgive each other and serve one another." She then proceeded to tell a story out of the Friend. "The title of this story is "Mean Maggie"(sept.2007 pg.10) I will never forget the day my mother taught me how to love a mean lady." Adessa recited the story almost word for word and then challenged us to love and serve one another just as Jesus would, "even though it may be hard sometimes (and then she quoted something that i have told her and didn't realize that it had sunk in so deeply) we have the choice to choose the right, we can choose to obey and be blessed for it, or disobey and suffer the consequences." She then closed with a (pretend) bean bag review. She "tossed" the "bean bag" at one of us (you had to be paying really good attention, or you would miss it) and asked what we learned from the lesson, or what was our favorite part of this Family Home Evening (we could give either answer, but we had to identify which one we were answering). Then it was "Fairy Princess Sparkles" (me) turn to give the closing song. We sang "If the Savior Stood Beside Me"(Friend oct. 1993 pg 14) as Jexten danced and "skedued" and adessa sang and conducted like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir conductor. Very official like!! When we got to the last verse, she called out in a loud voice "FORTE, SHOW ME WHAT YOU'VE GOT!!":-) The song ended on a praisworthy note, and she gave the most innocent and heartfelt closing prayer of her desire to show kindness and love and service throughout her days. We then all ended with the appropriate AMEN. Jexten then ran away to find his cars and "crash them"!
