I Like It That Way

I will not soon forget my 29th year. Just judging from the way it began, I can tell I am in for something.......adventure awaits around every corner. I should start where it all began, at the beginning! The actual day of January 6, 2011 started at 4 am when my little snuggle bugs climbed into bed with me. Kurt kissed me and whispered "happy birthday" as he left for work, the kids and I fell back asleep for a few hours until the alarm woke us up at 7am to get Adessa off to her day at kindergarten. By 8:15 am it was just Jexten and I back at home again. I traded in my regular routine of house chores and busy business for a delightful time with my my warm fuzzy-headed snuggle buddy. We snuggled on the couch watching "Mighty Machines". We talked about how awesome it is that we have such amazing machinery to help us do all kinds of jobs. Then Jexten became a transformer and started shooting me with his Nerf gun. So I became a decepticon and threw Nerf balls back at him. Ya, there was a big mess after that, but we were laughing so hard we didn't notice. We made ourselves a strawberry/raspberry/lemon smoothie for a snack to cool off. Jexten says "Wow, being a Hero sure does make me wet!"
We picked up Dessie from school, and the day really started to get crazy. We rushed home only to shove some lunch down and take our ball of fluff Friend to the vet for some booster shots. Adessa really took the reigns on that expedition right from entering the front door of Pets First Wellness Center on Forrest Street. She peeked her rosy face just above the counter, and checked us in, Jexten tickled the "office cat" under his furry chin. Adessa asked the nurse if she could use any assistance preparing the vaccinations for the patients. The tech's jaw dropped, and I just smiled and winked. By the time we left everybody was laughing, waving, and calling, "Come see us again soon!" We really should charge admission.;) Home again to drop off Friend, and off to do the shopping, and to the court house to pay for 2 dog registration tags. Again after leaving each store, and stop, everyone was laughing and begging us to "Please, come back soon!" We made a fun Public Library stop where Adessa informed me that she has been "yearning for an astrology book". When I asked why, she informed me " Because I have been observing the phases of the moon, and it fascinates me!" I often am asked by ward members, family, and even strangers "How did she get so......different?" I have to answer honestly that she is her own light, and I have always encouraged her and loved everything she is. I say "I like her that way", in fact, everyone she meets likes her that way. It is impossible not to!
If I were to have known what would happen during our Wal Mart adventure, I would have laughed the whole way there, instead of just the whole way home. Adessa is such a thoughtful and kind person, she really has been thinking hard about what she could get me for my birthday to make it special. As we passed the "value bakery cart" Adessa spotted just the right thing. She picked out a colorful chocolate 1/4 sheet birthday cake. It was elaborately decorated with rainbow frosting balloons, and pin striped swirls, with colorful frosting ribbon piping along the sides. She was so proud of what she had found! Adessa carried that cake inside it's display case all over the store. She held it so proudly, you would have thought it was made of gold. I wish I would have had my camera to capture the look on her face. Finally we reached the checkout counter where she proudly handed it to the checker. We payed for our groceries, and headed over towards the tag engraving kiosk, but then disaster struck. Adessa's nose began to twitch, and then she just had to scratch it. Cake doesn't balance by itself very well. FLIP, LEAP, REACH,.....but no, plop. That image of a crumpled, crumbed, whippy, swirly heap will never be worse than the look on Adessa's sweet face. She was completely devastated, to say the least. I could literally feel her heart break. Nothing could have prepared me for what she said next. "Ohhhh, momma, I am soooo sorry!!! Your perfect gift.....is......ruined. Do you HATE Me???" Right then and there in the middle of Wal Mart in front of everybody, I bent down and hugged her, and kissed her tears away and said, "I could never hate you. My perfect gift is NOT ruined, my perfect gift is You and Jexten. As for the cake, well, I Like It That Way!" She began to smile, and then we laughed about it. We really should charge admission.;) We poked candles into the cake and ate it later anyway.
On Saturday, Kurt took me on the best snow boarding excursion I could imagine. Wolf Mountain is definitely a winner! My batteries died shortly after I took these pics, but we sure did have a fun time.... trust me!:)The lodge
